Abstract: Discusses the state of accountability rating systems and examines their effectiveness, given that there is an information gap between donors and charities. The author analyzes ratings for New York charities from the Better Business Bureau's Wise Giving Alliance to determine the relationship between ratings and levels of contributions. While "pass" ratings were correlated with higher contributions as hypothesized, "did not pass" ratings did not exhibit statistical significance. With bibliographical references.
